Polish state media in bankruptcy after presidential veto
Poland's state news agency and television and radio channel will be put into bankruptcy by the country's culture minister Bartlomiej Sienkiewicz, writes Reuters.
He calls the measure "a measure to ensure the continued operation of the companies".
This comes after Polish President Andrzej Duda vetoed the new government's media reform. The reform aims to take back control of the media, which is considered loyal to the former government party, nationalist Law & Justice, which Duda is close to.
Sienkiewicz states that the media are being bankrupted as Duda's veto means that their funding ends.
"The decision means that the companies can continue to operate during the restructuring and that layoffs of staff are prevented," he writes in a statement on X.

The Eiffel Tower is closed - the staff are on strike
The Eiffel Tower in Paris was closed to visitors on Wednesday as the staff at the tourist destination went on strike, French media write.
The strike was held on the 100th anniversary of the death of engineer Gustave Eiffel and was called in protest against the tower's management.
The CGT union believes that the company that operates the tower, Sete, has overestimated future visitor numbers and underestimated operating costs.
The CGT states that it is a one-day strike.
"We do it to condemn the current management that is driving the tower down a cliff," they write in a statement.

The EU must capture the emissions - but where will it all be sent?
The EU countries rely on extensive capture of carbon dioxide emissions to meet the climate goals. But the question is where all captured carbon dioxide should be sent, writes Politico's Europe editorial team.
Today,
almost all storage sites are located in the North Sea, with countries
such as Denmark and the Netherlands leading the way. The
dominance in the north worries many politicians and business leaders in
southern Europe, who warn that this could distort competition. Sending the emissions across Europe is expensive.
