At least 22 people have been killed in a spiral of violence in the city of Jos in Plateau state in Nigeria, according to residents and a local Red Cross representative.
A group of masked people opened fire inside a restaurant on Sunday, killing at least twelve people.
On Monday, reports emerged that at least ten people had been killed in a revenge shooting by an armed group.
A 48-hour curfew in the northern parts of Jos has been declared as a result of the violence, and came into effect on Monday night, reports BBC News Pidgin.
The attacks are being investigated by local authorities, but the motive is unclear. However, the area has been characterized for many years by deadly clashes between farmers and herders.
