Middle East crisis Israel-Hezbollah

WHO: Nine health workers killed in southern Lebanon

Nine health workers have been killed and seven injured in Israeli attacks in southern Lebanon, the World Health Organization (WHO) said, according to Reuters.

The attacks are said to have taken place in five different locations, says WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

He also states that the attacks have hit the health sector hard.

"March has been the second deadliest month for health workers in Lebanon since WHO began monitoring attacks on health in the country in October 2023. Since the escalation began in Lebanon on March 2, more than 120 health workers have also been reported injured, mainly in the southern parts of the country," Tedros writes on X, according to Sky News.

Three journalists killed in Israeli attack in Lebanon

Three Lebanese journalists have been confirmed dead in an Israeli attack in southern Lebanon on Saturday, Sky News reports.

The journalists belonged to the Al Manar television channel, which is linked to the Iran-backed Shiite militia Hezbollah, and were killed while traveling in a car.

The Israeli military claims that one of the journalists, Ali Shayeb, was a "terrorist" with links to Hezbollah's intelligence service. A claim that Hezbollah rejects, writes Sky News.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun condemns the attack and calls it a war crime.

- We strongly condemn this aggression and demand that all international bodies act to stop what is happening in our country, he says.

The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) states in a statement that Al Manar is a Hezbollah-affiliated channel and that one of the journalists is pro-Hezbollah, but at the same time emphasizes that journalists are not legitimate targets regardless of which editorial office they work for.
