US budget dispute continues – compromise stopped

Republicans in the US House of Representatives are stopping the budget compromise that would resolve the shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security, several media outlets report.

Speaker and Republican Mike Johnson says that Donald Trump is behind the decision, which could extend the soon-to-be 42-day shutdown. It has meant, among other things, that security personnel at US airports have not received any pay.

The compromise was reached in the Senate shortly before the House of Representatives' decision. It meant that security personnel within the TSA agency would receive pay, as well as the Coast Guard, the disaster agency FEMA and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency.

However, the controversial immigration police ICE and parts of the customs agency CBP were not included, which has been a central issue of conflict.

Mike Johnson calls the compromise a "joke", according to the AP.

FBI Director's Email Hacked - Photos and Documents Leaked

Iranian hackers have broken into FBI Director Kash Patel's private email account, Reuters reports. From there, they have obtained photos and documents that have later been published online.

The US Department of Justice confirms that the email account has been hacked and that the material that has been distributed appears to be authentic.

The group behind the intrusion calls itself Handala and is considered by researchers to be one of several fronts linked to the Iranian regime's cyber activities.

For the first time, a sitting US president will sign the country's dollar bills. Donald Trump's unusual move comes in connection with the 250th anniversary of the United States, according to the Treasury Department.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent says it is "only right and reasonable".

"There is no more powerful way to recognize the historic achievements of our great country," he said in a statement.
