Russia threatens Latvia – the US strikes back

Russian UN Ambassador Vasily Nebenzia claims that Ukraine has sent drone forces to Latvia to attack Russia from Latvian soil, writes Reuters.

Russian intelligence knows exactly where Latvia's decision-makers are, he says, adding:

- NATO membership does not protect you from retaliation.

Latvia's UN envoy Sanita Pavluta-Deslandes dismisses it as "pure fabrication."

US Deputy UN Ambassador Tammy Bruce says the UN "is not a place for threats against other members" and adds that the US will uphold all its NATO obligations.

Russia begins three-day nuclear exercise

Russia's armed forces will hold a three-day nuclear exercise starting today, the defence ministry said, according to Reuters. The exercise will involve both ballistic missiles and cruise missiles.

According to the ministry, more than 64,000 soldiers and 7,800 military units are taking part in the exercise. The aim is to practice operations with nuclear forces in the event of a possible attack threat.

The exercise is taking place at the same time as Ukraine intensifies its drone attacks and President Vladimir Putin is on his way to China, writes AFP.
