Iran: Warns ships against unauthorized Hormuz voyages
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps on Thursday warned ships against sailing through the Strait of Hormuz without permission. Ships that do not comply with it "will be subject to measures," according to a statement.
Traveling without permission through the strait is "unacceptable and extremely dangerous," the Revolutionary Guard said in the statement.
The warning can be seen as a response to a message from Oman, which overnight established a temporary corridor through its side of the strait.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Thursday that international waters do not belong to any state and that Iranian tariffs on ships in the strait could risk "total chaos."
Iran and the United States agreed earlier this week to establish communication channels to keep the shipping lane open. Traffic through the strait has come under Iranian control since the outbreak of war.
