Middle East crisis Strait of Hormuz

Ships hesitate to pass through Strait of Hormuz

Despite the US promising that the Strait of Hormuz can be opened and that Donald Trump said that ships are already starting to leave the strait, many ships are hesitant about safety, reports AFP.

Jakob Larsen, head of security at the shipping lobby BIMCO, says that leaders have not provided sufficient information about, for example, which routes are safe.

“We assess that the security situation for shipping remains unstable, and we believe that it is very risky for ships to start traveling through the strait now,” he says.

Danish shipping giant Maersk says the agreement is a “positive development,” but that it is too early to say how it will affect logistics and maritime operations in the Middle East.

Trump: Ships are starting to leave the Strait of Hormuz

Oil tankers have started to leave the Strait of Hormuz, claims US President Donald Trump in a post on Truth Social. But tracking data shows that very few ships have moved.

“Ships are starting to move, many loaded with oil, out of the Strait of Hormuz. They are sailing via the southern “highway” which is completely safe, secure and untouched,” he writes.

However, traffic through the strait is still largely at a standstill, reports AFP, referring to marine tracking data from the region. On Monday, two ships are believed to have left the strait.

Vice President JD Vance says that the US expects Iran not to impose tariffs in the strait, but that the issue will be discussed.

Trump: US and Iran have signed the peace agreement

The US and Iran have signed the peace agreement, US President Donald Trump confirms during a press conference. The Strait of Hormuz will be fully opened on Friday, he says according to Reuters.

According to a US official, Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance and Iranian Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf have signed what is called a declaration of intent for peace.

According to Donald Trump, the agreement will be published in its entirety after it is formally signed.

Israel's withdrawal from Lebanon is not part of the agreement, a source told Reuters. The same source said that according to the declaration of intent, the Strait of Hormuz will be opened without tariffs for 60 days, and that the US is prepared to release frozen Iranian assets and sanctions.
