Donald Trump is a big fan of MMA, but according to the Wall Street Journal, the gala is also a politically charged event.

The gala is also controversial because of Trump's close ties to UFC boss Dana White. This year alone, the president has invested millions of dollars in the UFC's parent company, and the White House has also entered into a partnership with the company. The event has also tried to be stopped legally, but just a few days before the gala, a federal judge gave the green light for the event.
