Iranian media shows protests against peace deal
Small street protests have broken out in Iran after Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said a peace deal with the US could be close, reports the AFP news agency.
Images from the protests are also being circulated in hardline state media.
A clip shared by the Fars news agency, controlled by Iran's Revolutionary Guard, shows dozens of protesters gathered in front of a building belonging to the Foreign Ministry in the city of Mashhad. The people chant "death to the shameful Araghchi, the infiltrator" and wave flags.
AFP has also seen videos on social media showing similar scenes in Tehran. “Resign, Araghchi” and “resign, Ghalibaf,” protesters shout in the videos. The news agency notes, however, that the authenticity of the posts cannot be verified.
Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf is the speaker and has also had a leading role in contacts with the United States.
