Israel: We are bombing Beirut

At the same time as an Iran-US peace agreement appears to be close, Israel is attacking targets in Lebanon.

After an alarm about drones from the Iran-allied Hezbollah militia, Israel bombed villages in southern Lebanon on Sunday morning. And a few hours later, the Israeli military announced that it had also begun attacking the southern suburbs of Beirut. These are said to be targets linked to the Hezbollah militia.

AFP news agency journalists confirm heavy explosions in the suburbs of the Lebanese capital.

Such attacks have previously hampered peace efforts between Iran and the United States. When Iran has protested Israel's actions, the United States has reacted, prompting Israel to scale back its warfare.
