The verdict against Bolsonaro

Bolsonaro's son sentenced to prison - tried to get the US to save his father

Brazil's Supreme Court has sentenced Eduardo Bolsonaro to four years and two months in prison for undue influence during the coup trial against his father, former President Jair Bolsonaro. Reuters reports.

The son lobbied in the US to get Brazil to stop the trial. Donald Trump imposed punitive tariffs of 50 percent against the country during the process, according to AP.

The prosecutor showed several posts and messages that show how father and son Bolsonaro collaborated with the US to intimidate the judiciary, including through sanctions against several Supreme Court judges. This is reported by Brazilian G1 Globo.

Jair Bolsonaro is serving a 27-year prison sentence for a coup attempt under house arrest. Eduardo Bolsonaro was sentenced in his absence. He is campaigning from his home in Texas for his brother Flávio Bolsonaro, who is challenging Lula da Silva for the presidency in the October election.
