New US attack night against Iran after Trump's warning

The US has carried out a new wave of attacks on several locations in southern Iran, CNN reports, citing military data. Among other things, several command centers are said to have been hit, the US military command Centcom said on X.

"The attacks are a powerful response to yesterday's attempted Iranian attacks on American forces stationed in the Middle East," Centcom wrote.

The night's attack comes after President Donald Trump threatened Iran with retaliatory attacks on Wednesday after the country attacked Jordan. Trump said, among other things, that Iranian targets would be "hit hard."

The extent of the attacks has not been reported, but there are reports that explosions have been heard in several locations. Reports of attacks include in the cities of Abadan, Bandar Abbas and Bushehr, as well as on the island of Qeshm, according to Al Jazeera.

Jordan shoots down five Iranian missiles

Jordan has shot down five Iranian ballistic missiles in connection with an attack on a US base in the country, reports the AP.

There are currently no reports of injuries.

The US attacked a large number of targets linked to Iran's Revolutionary Guard overnight, including command centers and missile and drone facilities. Iran says two people were injured on the island of Qeshm. 

The war creates a shortage of weapons in the US: Fewer than 1,000 Patriot missiles in stock

Many of the US's weapons stockpiles are gaping empty after five months of war with Iran, reports CNN. For example, the country is said to have fewer than 1,000 missiles for the Patriot air defense system in stock.

Now the Pentagon hopes that defense startups in Silicon Valley can help fill the void, according to the Washington Post. However, experts are skeptical that the relatively new companies have the necessary skills.

“It’s one thing to build something ... it’s another thing entirely to mass-produce it,” says Jerry McGinn of the Center for Strategic and International Studies.
