Sources: Pressed BMW cuts 8,000 jobs globally
The German automotive manufacturer BMW is to reduce its global workforce by 8,000 jobs by the end of next year. This has been agreed upon by management and the works council in negotiations after last month's profit warning, sources tell Handelsblatt.
BMW is said to be aiming to save around one billion euros annually from 2028. The negotiations have been going on for six weeks with the aim of presenting an agreement at a meeting on Wednesday, the newspaper writes.
The background to the profit warning in June was a weaker Chinese market and declining demand during the Middle East crisis.
New truck sales increase despite geopolitical headwinds
Registrations of new trucks in the EU increased by 9.8 percent to almost 172,000 vehicles in the first half of the year. This is shown by new figures from the industry association Acea.
Growth was driven primarily by demand for heavy trucks. Of the larger markets, truck sales growth was 26 percent in Poland, while the figure for Spain was 13 percent and for Germany 7 percent.
Acea notes that growth was positive during the period, “despite geopolitical headwinds.”
