NATO intern arrested on suspicion of espionage
A Canadian citizen of Chinese origin has been arrested in Belgium on suspicion of “espionage on behalf of a third country,” Belgian authorities announced on Saturday.
The suspect was doing an internship at NATO, at the headquarters of the Allied Powers in Europe (Shape), near Mons in southern Belgium.
– She is suspected of having spied on behalf of a third country and of being a member of a criminal organization, the prosecutor's office said in a statement.
The woman was noticed by Shape's security service, which did not provide any details about what the espionage was about.
