Modi promises “severe punishment” for exam cheating
In a first statement in connection with the major protests that are shaking India, the country’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi is now promising “severe punishment” for those involved in irregularities with exam questions for admission to medical school.
“Nothing is more important than the well-being and future of our youth,” Modi says in a post on the platform X.
“Those who try to harm the future of our youth will not be spared.”
The protests gained momentum in May when dissatisfaction arose over shortcomings in the education system, after more than two million students were forced to retake the medical school entrance exam.
In recent days, the protests have grown in strength and the protesters are demanding, among other things, the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
