Trump to Reporter: "If I Die, You Die Too"
Donald Trump brushed aside reporters' questions about the security of the new Air Force One plane after he left the NATO summit on a different plane than the one he arrived on, The Hill reports. A reporter asked if there were any risks of Iran targeting Trump.
- I'm number one on their list. But if I die, you die too. So maybe some of you want to change jobs, the president says on board the plane.
Trump was allowed to leave Turkey in an old Air Force One instead of the luxury plane he received as a gift from Qatar after a recommendation from the Secret Service, according to information to the New York Times.
Several media outlets have previously reported that the new plane lacks several of the security systems that the old presidential plane has. The White House has repeatedly emphasized that the new plane is safe.
Reports: Secret Service urged Trump not to use Qatar's plane
Donald Trump flew home from the NATO summit in Turkey on the old Air Force One after a recommendation from the Secret Service, according to information to the New York Times.
Several people with insight state that the security service made the decision after the fighting with Iran had resumed.
According to the sources, the new Boeing plane, donated by Qatar, lacks several of the security systems found on board the older presidential plane.
However, the change is not said to have been made because of a concrete threat, but as a purely precautionary measure by the Secret Service.
Trump arrived in the new plane – but went home in the old one
Donald Trump's return trip from the NATO summit in Ankara has become a talking point for several reasons. Among other things, he flew home in an old blue and white Air Force One plane, not the big luxury gift from Qatar – a new Boeing converted into a presidential plane – that he arrived in Turkey in.
The AP describes it as an unexpected change. The president has not given any clear explanation for why he is traveling home in a different plane compared to the one he flew there on. Trump claims that he wanted to travel in the older plane “for old times’ sake”.
Several media outlets write that the change of aircraft raises questions about the safety of the new plane. The administration has spent hundreds of millions of dollars rebuilding the gift from Qatar, but several media outlets have information that it lacks, among other things, a system that warns of incoming missiles.
– The new Air Force One plane is a state-of-the-art aircraft equipped with advanced security systems to protect the president and his staff, says White House spokesman Steven Cheung.
