British police have launched a murder investigation after Conservative politician and TV personality Ann Widdecombe was found dead, Sky News reports.

Widdecombe was found in her home on Thursday. According to police, she had serious injuries. She was 78 years old.

Police are looking for a suspect and are asking the public for tips, but are not giving any other details. A large police force is on site outside the home in the small village of Haytor Vale in southwest England, where a mood of shock prevails, writes the BBC.

Widdecombe held several ministerial posts for the Conservative Party in the 90s. She was a strong Brexit supporter and ran for the Brexit Party in 2019, until Britain's formal withdrawal from the EU the following year. In 2023, she joined Reform UK.
