Increasing military cooperation on the Russian border
Sweden and Finland are strengthening their military cooperation on the border with Russia.
The cooperation means that the countries will work even closer together in "surveillance and protection of territorial integrity", according to a press release from the Government Offices.
According to SVT, Gripen planes and warships will patrol the Russian border after a request from the Finnish government. This after Russian violations of airspace and Ukrainian drones that ended up on the Finnish side of the border.
The countries' defense ministers write that the cooperation increases Finland's ability to respond to drone threats that have become a consequence of Russia's war on Ukraine and strengthens NATO's deterrence and defense.
