Nearly 1,500 people missing after the disaster in Nepal

Nearly 1,500 people are missing after the disaster in Nepal and Tibet, according to Reuters. At least 800 of them are foreign nationals. More than 165 people have been confirmed dead and the death toll is expected to rise.

– It will rise as the search has now resumed and more bodies are expected to be found, says Nepalese police spokesman Abi Narayan Kafle.

More than 5,000 rescue workers are searching for survivors. Helicopters are being used to reach thousands of people who are isolated.

The disaster in Nepal may have claimed significantly more lives than is known so far, fears Mats Eriksson at the Swedish Geotechnical Institute.
