Trump Renames Lake – Escalates Trade War

Donald Trump has signed a presidential order to rename Lake Ontario to Lake America in an escalation of the trade war with Canada, writes Reuters.

Interior Secretary Doug Burgum and his department have now been ordered to implement the change, according to the White House.

However, the United States cannot force Canada to change the name of the lake, which is shared between the two countries.

Trade talks between Canada and the United States collapsed last week after three days of intense negotiations. On Tuesday, Canada announced retaliatory tariffs against the United States.

On Wednesday, the White House posted a picture on its official Facebook account of a bald eagle attacking a Canada goose.

"Canada has been blowing the United States away for decades, and President Donald J Trump is not going to let them get away with it anymore," the post says.

Trump Reportedly Considering New Chip Tariffs: "Worst Strategy"

The Trump administration is considering new broad tariffs on semiconductors and products that contain chips, sources with insight told Politico. The tech industry warns that the tariffs could slow the country's investments in AI and data centers.

- This could be the worst possible strategy to make the United States a world leader in AI, says a tech industry representative.

The United States is still heavily dependent on imported advanced chips. With the tariffs, the government wants to get more manufacturers to relocate production to the United States.
