CIA chief John Ratcliffe visited Russia earlier this week under high-profile circumstances.

Now several media outlets are reporting that the purpose of the trip was to warn Russia about attacking NATO.

When an American transport plane made a trip to the Russian capital Moscow on Tuesday, some eyebrows were raised. It was later revealed that the plane had taken intelligence chief John Ratcliffe to the country.

Sources to The Wall Street Journal now state that the trip was made as a result of American concerns that Russia wants to test NATO with a "limited attack" against a member country within the next few years. The CIA chief is said to have warned Russia against carrying out such attacks.

Ratcliffe is also said to have discussed the Iran war and the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, sources tell CBS.
