Major earthquake in Colombia

A major earthquake has hit Colombia.

At least 20 people have died, according to AP.

Several are said to be trapped under collapsed buildings.

The quake occurred at 07.34, local time, at a depth of 115 kilometers, Reuters reports with reference to the European Seismological Center (EMSC).

The magnitude was 7.4, according to the US Geological Survey USGS.

The epicenter is located in San José del Palma in the province of Chocó, according to Colombia's disaster management agency.

"There is no threat of a tsunami," the authority writes on X.

According to local media, the quake was felt in large parts of the country, including the major cities of Bogotá and Cali. It was also felt in neighboring Ecuador.

According to the AP, several buildings have collapsed and people are trapped under the rubble.

At 5 p.m., the news agency reported that at least 20 people have died and several are injured.

18 of them have died in the city of Periera, according to the mayor.

People have been forced to leave their homes as far away as the capital Bogotá
