Trump: They are angry with the Republicans – not with me
In an interview with Punchbowl News, Donald Trump seems to be preparing himself and the world for the fact that the Republican results in the midterm elections this fall could sting. He certainly says that he believes that his party will retain the majority in both chambers, but adds that the party of sitting presidents almost always loses in the midterm elections.
Another thing he says speaks against a Republican victory is that many voters are angry with the party.
– A lot of people are angry with the Republicans. I don't know why, but they are not angry with me.
Opinion polls show that support for Trump is at a record low and that voters are very dissatisfied with, among other things, the economic effects of the Iran war at home.

Iran plans to keep Donald Trump involved in the conflict until the midterm elections this fall, writes Patrick Wintour in The Guardian.
"For many in Iran, meaningful revenge on Trump is a war goal in itself, which was noticeable at the funeral of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, where cries of retaliation replaced one another."
Iran has not trusted the US since 1979, but with Trump it is even more personal, writes Wintour. Not only did he tear up the nuclear deal in 2018, he had top general Qassem Soleimani killed in 2020 and then started two wars against the country after nuclear negotiations.
At the same time, Trump is pointing the finger at his Republican party colleagues in new statements about the midterm elections, writes Aaron Blake for CNN.
Among other things, he says that he is doing other Republicans a favor by supporting them, that he doesn’t need to campaign because he has already won his own campaign, and that voters are angry at other Republicans—not him.
“That is, to say the least, not true. Trump is historically unpopular and has the support of as few as one in three Americans,” Blake writes.
