New Record May Be Broken in British Heatwave
The fifth heatwave of the summer has reached Britain and a heat record that has stood since the summer of 1995 looks set to be broken.
That summer it was over 30 degrees Celsius for a total of 34 days. So far this year it has been that hot for 33 days. Sky News writes that the record will likely be touched today, and will probably be broken this week.
The record would be one of many broken in British heatwaves. Both May and June were the warmest ever recorded and July was record dry.
Warnings for heat, thunder, hail and wind in France
The French weather agency Météo France is issuing 21 orange warnings on Sunday for a range of weather conditions. This is the second highest level on the scale, French media reports.
A total of 13 districts in the southeast of the country are under heat warning on Sunday. Temperatures are expected to range between 34 and 38 degrees Celsius.
In eight districts in the southwest, the heat is combined with thunderstorms, hail and strong winds. The gusts can reach between 25 and 30 meters per second, according to BFMTV.
