Trump's USA Fed vs. inflation
Despite Supreme Court ruling: Trump makes new attempt to fire Cook
Donald Trump is making a new attempt to remove Lisa Cook from the Federal Reserve board. This despite the fact that the US Supreme Court ruled just over a month ago that there was no factual basis to fire the Fed member.
In a letter to Cook, the president writes that he is "considering" firing her over alleged fraud. A spokesperson for Cook says the allegations are as unfounded as before.
Cook's lawyers have described the allegations as a smokescreen and believe that Trump's real goal is to control monetary policy by appointing loyalists, writes the Wall Street Journal. He has long been critical of the Fed because he wants to see faster interest rate cuts.
Trump is the first president in the Federal Reserve's 112-year history to try to remove a member, according to the Washington Post.

Change of power in Hungary
Hungary's new government has found its presidential candidate
Hungarian ruling party Tisza has nominated Andras Baka for the post of president, Reuters reports.
Baka was previously the head of the country's Supreme Court and has made a name for himself as a defender of the rule of law and the independence of the judiciary. In 2011, he was dismissed prematurely by Viktor Orbán's government after criticizing it.
Tisza's party leader Péter Magyar's promises to break Orbán's rule led to a landslide victory. Replacing the president, who has a mainly ceremonial role, is seen as an important symbolic step in fulfilling that promise.
