Trump's Press Secretary Quits: "A Decision I Completely Understand"
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt is leaving her job at the end of August, the president writes on Truth Social.
According to Trump, it was Leavitt herself who made the decision to be able to spend more time with her family.
"A decision I completely understand and respect!"
He writes that Leavitt has done a "phenomenal" job and that she will be an outside advisor and an "influential voice" within the Republicans.
Analysis: Hardly the last the world has seen of Karoline Leavitt
Trump's outgoing press secretary Karoline Leavitt has not had an easy job, writes Stephen Collinson in an analysis in CNN.
"No one, not even he, knows what the president will say next," writes Collinson and claims that "message discipline is an oxymoron for this administration."
But Leavitt has not been an ordinary press secretary either. Like her boss, she has, according to Collinson, found a completely new way of doing the job – one that has been more about ridiculing than informing the assembled press corps.
DN's Karl Dalén describes Leavitt as “never unresponsive, often combative and not always truthful.” Even if Leavitt is taking a step back for the moment, he says, she could very well return as a politician in the future.
