Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen is set to meet US President Donald Trump shortly.

"I have an excellent relationship with the American president," says Frederiksen.

The meeting will take place in conjunction with the opening of the UN General Assembly in New York next week, when Denmark and the US are expected to sign the security agreement regarding Greenland that the two countries have agreed upon.

Greenland’s government minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen states that he is also on his way to New York.

"On the way across the Atlantic, I am thinking of all of you back home. Of the families, the children, the young, and the elderly," Nielsen writes on Facebook.

Few details regarding the agreements have been made public, but according to President Donald Trump, the new agreement will give the US "permanent control over security" on the island.
