Passenger train bound for Warsaw hit by Russian drone

A passenger train heading to Warsaw was struck by a Russian drone on Sunday in the Volyn Oblast, two kilometers from the Polish border, Politico reports.

Reportedly, the locomotive was the part hit, but no one was injured because Ukrainian authorities had issued a warning about the attack before it occurred.

"This is Putin’s terror 'knocking on' the doors of the EU and NATO. Russian barbarians are at your doorstep," writes Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha on X.

There were 206 people on board, including the award-winning Ukrainian journalist Katerina Sergatskova, according to the Kyiv Independent.

The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that the military had attacked the railway in western Ukraine, which is "used to transport military cargo from European countries."

Ukraine: Russia attacking railways "systematically"

Russia is attacking Ukrainian railways "systematically," Ukrainian authorities state, according to AFP.

"Our monitoring center and all employees are on high alert," the railway authority writes in a statement.

The statement follows an incident where a passenger train traveling from Ukraine to Warsaw was hit by a Russian drone two kilometers from the Polish border.

Poland: Russia to escalate in coming weeks

Russia will escalate its attacks on Ukraine in the coming weeks, says Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.

"The coming weeks and months will be a period of very intense activity on the part of Russia." "Poland cannot rule out that this escalation will also affect our territory," says Tusk.

He has convened an emergency crisis meeting today after Russia carried out a drone attack on a passenger train in Ukraine, approximately two kilometers from the Polish border. 

Boris Johnson after the attack: "What sick logic?"

Boris Johnson, the former British Prime Minister, was on the passenger train that was struck during a Russian drone attack on Sunday. Like former Swedish Prime Minister Carl Bildt, Johnson has written about the experience on X:

"I don't know what sick logic drove Putin to blow up a Ukrainian locomotive near the Polish border this morning. But what we can say for certain is that this is the kind of random and senseless attack that Ukrainians have to endure every day."

The train was traveling from Kyiv to the Polish capital, Warsaw. No one was injured in the attack.
