Iran plans meeting with neighbors regarding Hormuz
Iran’s Foreign Ministry states that a meeting with several Gulf states regarding the Strait of Hormuz is scheduled to be held in Oman on Monday.
Iran and Oman have been discussing the situation in the Strait of Hormuz for several weeks. On Friday, Tehran announced that a meeting involving additional countries in the region would take place this coming Monday.
"Iraq and other coastal states along the Persian Gulf" will participate, according to the country's Foreign Ministry.
"This meeting is intended to foster better understanding among the countries in the region and contribute to strengthening shared regional security," a statement read.
Commercial traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has been severely restricted since the war against Iran launched by the US and Israel on February 28 of this year. Iran is blocking the strait, while the US Navy is blockading Iranian ports and vessels in the Persian Gulf.
