Iran: Resuming relations with the United Arab Emirates

Iran and the United Arab Emirates—whose relations deteriorated during the Middle East war—both wish to "turn the page," according to the Iranian president.

"For the first time since the war broke out and the incidents occurred in the Persian Gulf, we have had a constructive exchange of views with the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi," says Masoud Pezeshkian.

The statement comes a day after Pezeshkian met with Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in India.

"It was decided that we should turn the page, look toward the future, and build it together," says Pezeshkian.

The conflict spread rapidly across the Middle East after the US and Israel launched their war against Iran in February. Iran responded with attacks on US allies in the region, including the United Arab Emirates.

In August, Abu Dhabi announced that it was halting all trade with Iran.
