Social media accounts belonging to a number of Turkish LGBTQI organizations were blocked in Turkey on Saturday, following demands from the country's authorities.

In June, Turkey blocked approximately 40 accounts on X linked to LGBTQI organizations. According to the news agency AFP, a large number of additional accounts—with thousands of followers—have now been blocked on the platform within the country.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, among others, has repeatedly criticized the LGBTQI movement, describing it as deviant.

Last year, over 700 X accounts critical of the government were blocked at the behest of Turkish authorities, according to AFP.
