UN official: "Hardest winter" for Ukraine

The coming winter in Ukraine could be the hardest since Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022. This is according to Alexander De Croo, head of the UN Development Programme, speaking to the BBC.

"With the temperatures experienced here, it would lead to conditions bordering on a humanitarian catastrophe," De Croo told the BBC.

He accuses Russia of systematically targeting Ukraine's energy infrastructure and civilian targets.

"We are talking about gas stations, shopping malls, and business centers, but above all energy infrastructure and the like. There is absolutely no justification for it."

During winter in Ukraine, temperatures can drop to –20 degrees Celsius.
