Volodymyr Zelenskyy wants the US to expedite its approval of a new sanctions package against Russia.

"Sanctions need to be announced now," the Ukrainian president writes.

In a post on X, Zelenskyy states that the pending US sanctions against Russia are needed immediately.

The proposal for a new US sanctions package against Russia was greenlit by the US Senate in August but still requires approval from the House of Representatives.

Opinions in Congress regarding the package are divided. Supporters argue that it would give US President Trump sharper tools to pressure Russian President Putin. The opposing camp views Trump's unchecked power regarding the imposition of tariffs—not just against Russia, but in general—with skepticism, Politico reports.

"Honestly, sometimes I don't understand why decisions can't be made faster," Zelenskyy writes.
