Princess Astrid honored: "Dedicated and committed"

The news of Princess Astrid’s death came just two days after the funeral of her brother, King Harald, which she had attended.

Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre mourns the Princess, who played an important role in the Royal Family's work for many years. Among other things, she assumed the role of First Lady after Crown Princess Märtha passed away in 1954, reports Norwegian TV2.

"I remember Princess Astrid as a capable, dedicated, and committed representative of the Royal House right up to the very end," says Gahr Støre.

The Swedish Royal Family also sends a message following the Princess's death, the Royal Court reports.

"We remember Princess Astrid with warmth and extend our condolences to the Princess's children and their families, as well as to the entire Norwegian Royal Family during this difficult and trying time."

Norwegian Princess Astrid has died – aged 94

Norwegian Princess Astrid has died, the Norwegian Royal House announces. She was the older sister of the late King Harald, who died on August 28.

The Princess was present at King Harald’s funeral this past Wednesday.

"Astrid was a vital source of support for King Harald and the rest of us in the family. We learned a great deal from her, and she was not afraid to speak her mind," says the new King Haakon in a statement.

Princess Astrid of Norway was 94 years old.
