Three dead in new US boat attack in the Caribbean

Three people have been killed in a new US attack on a boat in the Caribbean Sea that the US claims was used for drug smuggling, the military command Southcom says. This is reported by AFP.

- If you don't confront these gangs, they will devour these countries alive, says US Secretary of State Marco Rubio according to the news agency.

The US has attacked suspected smuggling boats in the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean since September last year. Over 200 people have been reported killed. No concrete evidence that the boats were involved in drug trafficking has been presented.

"Trump-a-palooza" had one focus: Trump

The first day of the Republican convention lived up to the nickname "Trump-a-palooza", writes The Hill. Posters of the president adorned the walls of the American Airlines Center in Dallas, and the dozens of visitors the newspaper spoke to all had the same reason for being there: To hear Trump speak.

And the main character made sure to keep the focus on himself once it was time to take the stage. He urged his supporters to go and vote in the midterm elections.

“Pretend it’s me on the ballot,” Trump said.

The purpose of the convention is mainly to energize Republican voters ahead of the November election. Opinion polls have shown that confidence in Trump is low among voters, and in a poll by Politico, half of the 70 Republicans surveyed said they planned to skip the convention. 

Trump promises "dividend" in case of Republican victory

US President Donald Trump promises to pay out $5,000, equivalent to nearly 50,000 kronor, to all adult Americans if the Republicans retain control of both chambers of Congress. This is reported by international media.

- Much like when a successful company distributes money to its owners, says Trump.

The proposal comes at a time when concerns are growing about the country's public finances and inflation. It is also unclear whether Trump would receive support for the payment in Congress.
