At least 30 dead in drone attack on market in Sudan
At least 30 people have been killed in a drone attack on a food market in the city of Nyala, Sudan.
The paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) accuse their adversary in the civil war—the Sudanese army—of being behind the strike.
The attack took place on Friday morning and may be one of the deadliest to occur in areas of the western Darfur region controlled by the RSF. Around 50 people were wounded in the attack and are receiving treatment in hospitals, according to local hospital sources.
The RSF, which is fighting against Sudan’s regular army forces, blames the army for the attack, claiming that it used Turkish-made drones. Both the RSF and the Sudanese army are increasingly employing drones in their warfare.
The civil war between the RSF and the Sudanese army has claimed more than 200,000 lives since it broke out in the spring of 2023.
