Congo accuses former President Kabila of war plans
The government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) claims that former President Joseph Kabila is planning "a large-scale attack" and has aligned himself with the M23 military movement, which is fighting in the eastern part of the country.
M23 is supported by neighboring Rwanda.
The statement from the government in Kinshasa, made on Friday evening, came during an interview with the news agency AFP. Government spokesperson Patrick Muyaya stated that Kabila "has decided to formalize a large-scale attack" and is prepared to take up arms to overthrow the government.
A year ago, Kabila was sentenced to death in absentia in the DRC for collaborating with the militant M23 movement.
For his part, Kabila announced on Monday that he is officially joining forces with M23 under a new umbrella organization intended to "end the tyranny" in the Congo.
