Sources: Zacharia fired – after five days
Donald Trump says that the role of press spokesperson might not be the right fit for Katie Zacharia, who held her first press conference on Tuesday, Reuters reports.
Trump says he intends to speak with Zacharia.
“I’ve told her she doesn’t have to do this if she doesn’t want to, and that she should reconsider,” he says.
Meanwhile, sources tell The New York Times that Zacharia has been fired—just five days after taking the job.
Zacharia assumed the role of White House Press Secretary this week. Her widely criticized press conference lasted 14 minutes. She also made headlines for claiming to be a lawyer, despite having no evidence to support this.
Report: Power struggle underway ahead of potential Wiles departure
A power struggle is unfolding within Donald Trump’s administration, sources tell The Washington Post. According to the newspaper, several individuals are positioning themselves to replace Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, should she step down this autumn.
Wiles has not informed her colleagues that she is considering leaving the high-stakes position; however, according to the WP, it is common for this role to rotate after 18 months to two years.
The power struggle reportedly intensified last week. White House spokesperson Danielle Alvarez dismissed the reports, stating that they are based on interviews with anonymous sources who “don’t know anything.”
Admission: Never passed the bar exam
White House Press Secretary Katie Zacharia admits that she never passed the bar exam to become a lawyer. She says this in an interview with the pro-Trump TV channel Real America’s Voice, reports CBS News.
Zacharia explains that she took the exam in California in 2011. She later moved to China, where she did not need the license.
She maintains that she has never called herself a lawyer. On her Instagram profile, she describes herself as “Wife, mom, and lawyer.”
