Kansas could turn blue for the first time in 96 years
Kansas has unexpectedly emerged as a key state in the US midterm elections this November, according to several media outlets.
The state has not sent a Democratic senator to Washington since 1932, but several polls indicate a very tight race between Republican Roger Marshall and Democrat Adam Hamilton.
“It’s essentially a dead heat,” political scientist Bob Beatty told KSN.
RealClearPolitics has labeled the state a “toss-up”—a contest with an unpredictable outcome. In the site’s latest aggregate, the candidates are separated by only 0.3 percentage points, with the Republican in the lead.
Poll: Few celebrate Trump’s tax cuts
Republican hopes that Donald Trump’s tax cuts would play a decisive role in the midterm elections appear to be fading, reports Politico, citing a new poll.
Fewer than one in ten voters view Trump’s tax cuts as one of the president’s major achievements, and roughly the same proportion consider tax policy to be the most important issue in the midterm elections.
Republican strategist Colin Reed doubts that this will be a winning issue.
“Elections are more about the future than the past.”
Sources: Omar under investigation regarding allegations dismissed in 2019
The ongoing investigation into progressive Congresswoman Ilhan Omar centers on the same issues that were examined during Trump’s first term—at which time no evidence of wrongdoing was found. This is reported by The Washington Post.
According to the newspaper, investigators are looking into Omar’s date of birth and the military service of her late father in Somalia. These matters relate to the basis upon which Omar became a U.S. citizen 26 years ago; however, when they were examined seven years ago, authorities found no grounds to pursue a full-scale investigation.
"This is politically motivated and an escalation of Trump’s personal vendetta against her, which has been going on for over a decade," says a spokesperson for Omar.
