Expert: Strong signals from the US

The fact that the US has withheld intelligence from Ukraine regarding Russian attacks can be interpreted as a strong signal, according to US expert Jan Hallenberg.

He states that American intelligence is crucial for Ukraine's ability to defend itself against ballistic missiles.

"The Ukrainians have managed to shoot down a high percentage of the less advanced drones, but the missiles are very difficult to intercept," says Jan Hallenberg, Professor Emeritus of Political Science at the Swedish Defence University.

"And without advance warning, it is virtually impossible."

At the same time, reports indicate that Ukrainian drones have lost some of their capabilities following the introduction of restrictions on the country's Starlink communication terminals.

Jan Hallenberg says that tech billionaire Elon Musk, who owns Starlink, is likely coordinating with the Pentagon.

"The drones that do get through cannot move at the same speed as before and become less effective against the Russians."

Hallenberg believes these are strong signals to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy that attacks on Russian oil facilities must cease immediately.

"You can attack whatever else you want, but not these oil terminals and refineries," says Hallenberg.

"But that is, after all, the most powerful weapon the Ukrainians have." He says the Americans cut off intelligence sharing once before. That happened after the much-discussed White House meeting where Zelenskyy was berated.

The flow of information was restored after a few days.

– The question now is whether Zelenskyy has to eat humble pie and say, "I will not attack oil facilities."
