Two journalists were injured on Friday during an attack by Israeli settlers in the West Bank.
One of them is war photographer Heidi Levine, who sustained multiple fractures during the assault.
The Washington Post’s executive editor is now calling for an investigation into the attack.
The incident reportedly took place in the area surrounding the villages of Burqa and Abu Falah, near Ramallah, during the ongoing olive harvest.
One of the injured journalists is war photographer Heidi Levine, who was on assignment for The Washington Post.
Levine suffered fractures to four vertebrae and a rib in the attack, according to The Washington Post. She also sustained lacerations and underwent surgery on her left hand on Saturday. Speaking from the hospital, she recounted being pushed to the ground and kicked repeatedly.
Robbed of camera equipment
The newspaper’s executive editor, Matt Murray, has condemned the attack and is demanding that Israeli authorities conduct a thorough investigation. He noted that Levine was clearly identifiable as a member of the press.
According to the Foreign Press Association (FPA)—an organization for foreign journalists—the settlers also stole Levine’s camera equipment, passport, and wallet.
A video recording of the assault is said to exist.
