State of emergency declared in several parts of the USA after the storm Hilary
Storm Hilary is likely to cause "catastrophic and life-threatening" flooding in California, according to US meteorologists. That's what CNN writes.
In Palm Springs, City Manager Scott Stiles has declared a state of emergency due to the storm. Residents have been asked to stay at home and avoid driving due to the high water flows, he writes on X, formerly Twitter.
"Due to unprecedented rainfall and flooding of local roads and multiple rescues from rapidly rising water flows, City Manager Scott Stiles has declared a local emergency due to the critically hazardous impacts".
Hilary is the first tropical storm to reach Southern California in 84 years and states of emergency have been declared in several locations.

California Unrest as Storm Hilary Makes Entry
Tropical Storm Hilary has entered the West Coast of North America. Since Sunday evening, there are more and more reports that southern California is beginning to be drowned in a heavy rainstorm.
Authorities urge the public to stay safe.
- You don't want to be out on the roads, don't try to cross flooded roads, either by car or on foot, says Michael Brennan at the Hurricane Center.
According to meteorological assessments, as much as 250 millimeters of rain may fall in the coming 24 hours. This is also over areas that normally do not receive any rain at all.
Among the areas in the direction of the storm are Palm Springs and Death Valley.
