The change of power in Thailand
The second largest party allies itself with the military
Thailand's populist party Pheu Thai has formed a coalition with ten other parties, two of which are allies of the party's former military rivals. That in an attempt to form a new government and end the three-month-long political deadlock, writes the Bangkok Post.
The announcement came the day before parliament is to hold a vote on a new prime minister.
Pheu Thai is expected to nominate property mogul Srettha Thavisin to become the country's next leader.
The party came second in Thailand's election in May, but took over the formation of the government after conservative members of the upper house blocked attempts by the progressive Kao Klai Party to take over the prime minister's post.
