Russian invasion Negotiations

Putin: US can buy Ukrainian minerals from us

Russian President Vladimir Putin says he is ready to cooperate with the US to mine rare earth metals in both Russia and Russian-occupied parts of Ukraine, several media outlets report.

The statement comes as Ukraine is experiencing increasing pressure from the US to accept an agreement on Ukrainian rare earth minerals.

– We would be happy to work together with all foreign partners, including the US, says Putin on Russian state television according to Fox News.

Putin also suggests that Russia and the US should cooperate on aluminum production in Krasnoyarsk in Siberia. The offer is startling given the honor Russia previously placed in keeping Russian natural resources in Russian hands, writes the BBC.

Macron: Ceasefire in Ukraine could be weeks away

A ceasefire in Ukraine could happen in the coming weeks, assesses French President Emmanuel Macron. According to him, it would be a first test to see if Russia is ready for peace negotiations, he said in an interview with Fox News.

– A ceasefire in the air, at sea and for infrastructure. If this is not respected, it would be the best proof that Russia is not serious, says Macron.

During a ceasefire, negotiations could then begin on peace and security guarantees, says Macron. He welcomes Donald Trump's initiative for peace, but emphasizes that it must be done carefully in order to achieve a sustainable solution for Ukraine.

Macron is positive about the ongoing US negotiations with Ukraine to gain access to rare earth metals in exchange for aid.

– I think it is very important because it is one of the best ways to keep the US committed to Ukraine's sovereignty, he says.
