Trump's First Term

White House Takes Control of Press Access

For around 100 years, the White House Correspondents' Association (WHCA) has appointed the members of the small group of correspondents who cover the president and have access to places like the Oval Office and Air Force One – but not anymore.

Donald Trump's press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, has now announced that the White House press team will now decide which journalists have access to Trump, reports AFP.

The WHCA quickly condemned the decision in a statement, writing that it "undermines the independence of the free press".

This comes during the ongoing legal battle between the White House and the largest US news agency, the Associated Press (AP), which Trump ported from the White House after the AP refused to accept his renaming of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.

Uncertainty ahead of vote: "Maybe, maybe not"

The US House of Representatives, where Republicans have a majority of 218 to 215, will vote today on a first budget draft.

But there is internal resistance to Trump's plans, which will permanently cut taxes by a total of $4.5 trillion while more money will be spent on, among other things, the deportation of illegal immigrants.

- There may be a vote tonight, and there may not be one, Speaker Mike Johnson told reporters according to the AP.

There is not one but several different objections among members of Congress and these do not seem to be able to get along with each other.

Meanwhile, the clock is ticking, AP notes. On March 14, the federal authorities will begin a so-called shutdown of the state if Congress has not voted on how to finance it.

Later this year, Congress must vote to raise or abolish the so-called debt ceiling, otherwise a national bankruptcy threatens when the United States stops paying its debts.

Trump starts selling residence permits – opens to Russian oligarchs

Donald Trump's administration will start selling "gold cards", permanent residence and work permits in the US, within two weeks. He announced this according to news agencies.

- There is a 'green card', this is a gold card. We will set a price of about five million dollars for the card, he says.

The card is intended to attract job-creating individuals to the US. It is possible that Russian oligarchs may also qualify, Trump adds.

With this program, Trump will replace the 35-year-old EB-5 visa program for foreign investors.
