Ukraine and the US have reportedly agreed on an agreement regarding minerals.
This is reported by sources for the Financial Times.
– This seems significantly better than the proposals that were previously leaked, says military expert Joakim Paasikivi.
Sources with insight state that Ukraine Ukraine is now ready to sign after the US reduced its demands.
The agreement also applies to oil and gas.
According to the Financial Times, the decision will concern the framework for how the agreement between the countries should look.
– The agreement on minerals is only part of the whole. We have heard several times from the US administration that it is only a small part, says Olha Stefanishyna, Ukraine's Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, to the Financial Times.
Better than before
Military expert Joakim Paasikivi says that the proposed agreement looks better than the proposals that have been previously rumored.– It is undeniably a clear change from the harsh conditions that were in place from the beginning, he says.
On the one hand, the agreement benefits American industry and on the other hand, there will likely be reinvestment in Ukrainian industry, according to Paasikivi.
– It is both economically beneficial and benefits Ukraine in the long term, he says.
According to the Financial Times, President Volodymyr Zelenskyj will travel to Washington sometime in the next few weeks to sign the agreement with the United States.
