Trump on the move against Zelensky: “Did I say so?”
US President Donald Trump and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer smiled, shook hands and patted each other on the back before turning to reporters after their meeting at the White House on Thursday, writes The Guardian.
– It is a great honor to have Prime Minister Starmer in the Oval Office. It is a unique place, and he is a unique man, says Trump.
Trump also announced that he is planning a state visit to London “in the near future” to discuss, among other things, the war in Ukraine and trade.
The war was also the central issue during Thursday’s meeting, writes AP. During the press conference, Trump promised to do the best he can “for both sides” and try to return as much land as possible to Ukraine. When the president was asked how he reasoned when he called Zelensky a dictator, the answer was:
– Did I say that? I can't believe I said that.
No guarantees but Trump promises "lots of people"
Keir Starmer put on the charm and said that peace in Ukraine has become a possibility only because of Donald Trump. But the British prime minister still does not seem to be getting the American security guarantee for Ukraine that he called for, reports AP.
At the joint press conference, Trump referred only to the much-talked-about mineral agreement.
– We are a guarantee because we will be there, we will work. We will have lots of people over there, Trump said.
The framework for the Ukraine-US mineral agreement is thin on details and it is unclear whether and how American companies will operate in the country.
