Middle East crisis The attacks

70 cars leave British air base after drone alert

The air raid alert at the British air base in Akrotiri in Cyprus sounded again on Monday morning after two drones were spotted heading towards the base, AFP reports.

The drones were shot down, according to a Cypriot official.

The alert led to the evacuation of the base and about 70 cars were seen leaving the area, according to the news agency's reporter. Most of the vehicles are said to have had civilian license plates.

The new air warning comes after the base was hit by an Iranian Shahed drone on Monday night.

Kuwait accidentally shot down three US fighter jets

Three US fighter jets have crashed in Kuwait after so-called "friendly fire". The US Central Command confirmed this at noon.

“During the ongoing combat – which included attacks from Iranian aircraft, ballistic missiles and drones – the US fighter jets were accidentally shot down by Kuwaiti air defenses,” the Central Command wrote.

The incident occurred at 05:00 on Monday morning, Swedish time.

In a video that CNN has verified, one of the planes, believed to be an F-15, is seen crashing near Ali Al Salem Air Base in central Kuwait. In another clip, a soldier is seen falling to the ground with a parachute.

All six crew members are said to have ejected and survived unharmed.

“We are grateful for the efforts of the Kuwaiti Defense Forces and their support in the ongoing operation,” the US writes.
