57 countries want to speed up the phase out of fossil fuels.
Now they have gathered for a new conference, in Colombia.
– The phase out of fossil fuels has gone from being an issue for climate activism to being at the center of the global economy, says Ingmar Hertzog in an article in Forbes.
The first conference on fossil phase out, Transitioning away from fossil fuels conference, is currently taking place in Santa Marta, Colombia.
There are representatives from 57 countries, including Sweden. The countries account for 30 percent of the world's population and 20 percent of the global production of fossil fuels.
The decision to start a new conference was made after the last COP, in Bélem, last fall, and the topic is highly topical after US President Donald Trump attacked Venezuela and Iran. Something that has caused the price of oil to skyrocket and discussions about oil shortages to increase.
Ingmar Hertzog, founder and CEO of We don't have time, writes in Forbes that they are now trying something new:
- A critical mass of countries can start building the rules, roadmaps, financing mechanisms and scientific capacity required to manage the decline of coal, oil and gas - before the next crisis forces the world to do so in a chaotic way.
The conference ends on April 29.
