Video ban when Trump and Charles meet – wants to avoid Zelenskyy humiliation
The talks between President Donald Trump and King Charles will be held behind closed doors, reports The Guardian. British officials have been fighting to prevent the world press from being invited to meetings during the British state visit – to avoid the king being potentially humiliated or insulted by Trump. According to the newspaper, there were concerns that the awkward situation with Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the Oval Office last year would be repeated.
Sources with insight into the planning of the trip say that Charles will pose for photographers at the start of his most important bilateral meeting on Tuesday, but that he will not be filmed when any more substantive or sensitive issues are discussed.
Government officials have high hopes for the state visit and see it as an opportunity to improve relations between the countries, which are currently at one of their most strained points in decades.
Lip reader reveals Trump's words in meeting with Charles
What Trump says when the microphones are on is widely known. But what does he say when only a few can hear? The British Daily Mail wanted to know and hired lip reader Nicola Hickling in connection with King Charles III's visit to the White House.
The result: Trump brought up both the weekend's shooting at the correspondents' dinner and his relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin. At least if Hickling is to be believed.
-I'm talking to Putin right now. He wants war, Trump is believed to have said.
He then went on to explain his vision for the much-talked-about ballroom he wants to build at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Whether the Daily Mail feels they got their money's worth doesn't tell the story, but at least it was an article.
